Secret Eden: 17 diptychs & series of 50 portraits
Associate the diptych’s two images… and a story reveals itself…
It’s set in a seventies service station or in a Grimm brothers fairy tale. But the timeframe is unclear; it’s set in the middle of the day and in the dead of night; in an office next to a typewriter; in front of a fireplace; in formal French gardens; on a sofa near an English bulldog, under a blazing sun or beneath grey skies, etc. In Secret Eden, it’s happening everywhere. Sacha Goldberger’s new series of photographs invites the viewer to take a peak through a peephole.
Sacha Goldberger loves to play hide and seek. He makes up fantasies, triggers secret conversations and arouses curiosity. He opens some doors whilst closing others. Like a director, he selects the set and the costumes, directs the actors, adjusts the lights, but leaves the viewer the pleasure of imagining what happens between the shots…
Fearlessly dive into the open scenarios of Secret Eden: a courtesan; a monkey man; a Baron; Snow White; one of the Seven Dwarves; clones; a character right out of Mad Man; a secretary; a doe or a woodcutter.
These different characters act as an introduction to our clandestine tales and quickly become our confidants. Viewings are private. With them, it’s OK. The most liberal journeys take place within us.
